At an altitude of 2260m, the highest point of the route takes us deep into the Margaureis Mountain. The lunar landscape sets the scene for show-stopping limestone rocks and a hike to the top of Pointe Marguareis at 2600m… You can make a loop out of the trail and link the hamlet of Castérino, Col de Tende, Margaureis Mountain, Ligurian Alps Nature Park, Monte Saccarello and Notre-Dame des Fontaines in La Brigue. Straddling France and Italy, the road winds through authentic villages packed with tradition, unforgettable history, cultural and culinary heritage before running through a vast, well-preserved natural setting with astonishing biodiversity.
You can do all sorts of things here: travel the route on quad bikes, motorbikes or 4x4s. For the full experience, some days are reserved for hikers and mountain cyclists. The sprawling scenery goes on forever and you really do have your head in the clouds. A wonderful hilltop route for an experience you’ll never forget.
Traffic is limited for cars and motorbikes from June to October.
30km of trails at altitudes between 1800 and 2100 metres are accessible on the French side from the villages of La Brigue and Tende, and from Limone, Briga Alta, Triora and Pigna in Italy.
Set off from La Brigue or Tende and let the magical mountain scenery wash over you. The white rock stands out against the green mountain pastures and blue skies. This legendary road clings to the ridges on the Franco-Italian border. Both sides have incredible views of the Italian coast and Mount Bégo in the Valley of Wonders.
Please note that on Tuesdays and Thursdays the route is reserved for pedestrians and cyclists.
Having been severely impacted by Storm Alex, the Roya Valley and its villages are now ready to welcome you this summer! Road and rail links have been developed to offer you the best possible experience.
