Two Handiplages sites in the Menton, Riviera & Merveilles area offer access to the sea for the disabled. All week long during the summer months, the teams await you from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on simple reservation. In Menton, the Sablettes beach is the site of the scheme. In Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, the handiplage team will be waiting for you on Plage Berlioz.
In the hamlet of La Minière in Vallauria, not far from Tende, the Neige & Merveilles association offers accommodation and catering. The establishment is committed to an environmental approach. Water and energy conservation, exterior lighting designed to avoid nuisance to nocturnal insects, waste sorting, eco-labelled products, no pesticides used in the upkeep of green spaces – these are the general operating principles. At the restaurant, you’ll find organic and local produce for a good half of the menu, but above all, you’ll be questioning and seeking to improve your approach time and time again. This is an address firmly rooted in ecological commitment!
In Saint-Dalmas-de-Tende, Le Prieuré is a hotel-restaurant unlike any other in more ways than one. A restored former monastery, it offers hotel rooms and restaurants. While the beauty of the setting is certainly not lacking in seduction, Le Prieuré is run by an ESAT, an Etablissement et Service d’Aide par le Travail, which takes in around 70 disabled people. In short, it’s a social inclusion project. If you’re passing through Tende, be sure to pay a visit!
In Castillon, the inclusive Hartmonie restaurant, run autonomously by employees of the ESAT in Saint-Dalmas-de-Tende, offers fine home-cooked food at very reasonable prices. The initiative has revitalized the village’s only restaurant, delighting the taste buds of villagers and visitors alike.
La Petite Epicerie de Saorge is a unique grocery-restaurant with a clear commitment to “zero waste”, “accepted containers” and “suspended coffee”. A member of the Écotable community, an association that promotes sustainable food, the place prides itself on its product-based cuisine, local recipes and heart-warming conviviality. A little nugget open all year round!
Since 1977, Esatitude Menton has been supporting mentally handicapped people through their work, and as part of this, is helping to develop the IGP Menton lemon sector. In 2015, a new step was taken: the Zeste de Menton brand, specializing in delicatessen products based around Menton lemons, was created. In 2017, a confectionery and cookie workshop joins the family. The brand is pretty, the commitment incredible and richly deserving of support, but above all their products are delicious.
