A responsible travel destination is an eco-conscious destination. To help you choose responsible and ethical service providers, here is a small, though not exhaustive, guide to tourist operators committed to a responsible, social and ethical approach to tourism.

“Tourisme & Handicap”

a commitment to ensure accessibility

The Menton, Riviera & Merveilles Tourist Information Office displays the “Tourisme & Handicap” label. This approval acknowledges its commitment to accessibility to leisure activities and holiday opportunities for everyone. In practical terms, there are audios available for visitors at the ticket office, describing different activities and places to visit. Special seating and prices can be arranged, enlarged documents are available on site, a hearing aid system is available (link), and our expert team is on hand to ensure you have everything you need.

    Handiplages:

    Access to the sea for people with disabilities

    It is worth noting that there are two handiplage locations in the Menton, Riviera & Merveilles area, providing access to the sea for people with disabilities. During the summer months, the team is at your service from 9 am to 5 pm, by reservation only. In Menton, Les Sablettes beach hosts the scheme. Meanwhile, in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, the handiplage team welcomes you at Berlioz beach.

    Neige & Merveilles:

    An environmental and quality initiative

    In the hamlet of La Minière in Vallauria, not far from Tende, the Neige & Merveilles Association provides catering and accommodation. The facility is environmentally-friendly and has earned the “Qualité Tourisme” label. Water and energy savings, exterior lighting designed to prevent disturbance to nocturnal insects, waste recycling, eco-labelled products, and not using pesticides to maintain green spaces, are just some of the measures in place. The restaurant serves a large proportion of organic and local produce, but above all, it is a place which encourages people to review and improve their own actions. This place is firmly rooted in its ecological commitment!

        Le Prieuré:

        A social inclusion project

        In Saint-Dalmas-de-Tende, Le Prieuré is a hotel restaurant like no other in a number of ways. Formerly a monastery, it has been renovated and now offers hotel accommodation and a restaurant. While the beauty of this venue is not without its charm, Le Prieuré is run by an ESAT, an establishment and service for people with disabilities, which greets a team of around 70 people. Put simply, this is a social inclusion project. If you are spending time in Tende, be sure to stop by!

        Hartmonie:

        An inclusive restaurant

        In Castillon, the inclusive restaurant Hartmonie, run independently by employees of the ESAT in Saint-Dalmas-de-Tende, offers excellent home-made cuisine at very reasonable prices. The initiative has brought the only restaurant in the village back to life, treating the taste buds of villagers and visitors alike.

            La Petite Epicerie de Saorge:

            “zero waste” and sustainable produce

            La Petite Épicerie de Saorge is a unique grocery store-restaurant that clearly states its commitment to “zero waste”, “containers accepted” and “caffè sospeso” (whereby an additional coffee is paid for as a charitable act). As a member of the Ecotable community, an association that promotes sustainable food, this place prides itself on its cuisine made using local produce, local recipes as well as its warm and friendly atmosphere. A little gem, open all year round!

            Esatitude Menton

            and the Zeste de Menton brand

            Esatitude Menton has been assisting people with learning disabilities in their work since 1977, and is involved in developing the IGP Menton Lemon business. In 2015, a new chapter began with the creation of the Zeste de Menton brand, specialising in gourmet foods featuring Menton lemons. In 2017, a confectionery and biscuit workshop was added to the range. The label itself is attractive, the workmanship is incredible and deserves great support, but most importantly, the products are delicious. Head on over to the community shop at the Menton Tourist Information Office and sample them for yourself!
