Cross-country Ski Resort:
a white paradise
When winter arrives and a blanket of white covers the ground, Castérino opens up three blue, red and green marked runs to skiers. This modest ski resort has all the appeal of the Great North… You can also try cross-country skiing or venture out on snow shoes along one of three marked trails, each taking about an hour and a half to follow.
Everyone can also enjoy having fun on the sledge run and magical walks in the mountains.
Head to the Vallée des Merveilles (The Valley of Wonders)
A stone’s throw from Castérino
This small mountain hamlet also sits at the entrance to the Vallée des Merveilles (The Valley of Wonders) . After a wonderful walk in the fresh mountain air, through the forest, crossing rocky terrain and amid alpine flora, you reach this exceptional archaeological site. A unique open-air museum, this site displays one of the largest collections of rock engravings in Europe. A history lesson in the heart of nature!
Summer, a time to go hiking
Enjoy the great outdoors in the sunshine
In summer, the snow gives way to lush green vegetation, ideal for enjoying wonderful walks, bike rides, horseback riding, donkey rides and even 4×4 excursions. Whichever way, you’ll discover the wild and unique landscapes around Castérino.
For those who like a challenge, the Grande Randonnée (GR) trails in Mercantour await. You can also walk to Lake Sabion and Lake Peyrefique, two of the highlights in the region. Families can enjoy a lovely stroll along the Castérino plateau followed by a picnic, or head for the Valmasque waterfall, or Lac des Grenouilles, where, towards the end of the summer, chubby marmots share the land with ibexes and chamois!
