Access to the Roya Valley

Road and rail access to the Roya Valley

The Roya Valley and its villages (Breil-sur-Roya, Fontan, Saorge, La Brigue and Tende) are waiting for you!

Road and rail access has been upgraded, with only the Col de Tende tunnel currently closed.

The Train des Merveilles is closed until the end of 2025 (rehabilitation work).

By road

The national road crosses the Roya valley from Breil-sur-Roya to Tende, and is accessible from Ventimiglia and Menton.

Access is possible :

  • From Menton via Sospel via Col de Brouis to Breil-sur-Roya and Tende.
  • On the A8 freeway to Italy, exit at Ventimiglia in the direction of Ventimiglia (not France) and follow signs for Tende / Col de Tende.

Find your itinerary directly on the French Riviera Transport website, and discover all the transport options available.

RD6204: Typical of mountainous terrain, this road was badly hit by storm Alex in October 2020, but has been completely rebuilt. A great deal of rehabilitation work has been carried out, but there are still a few building sites along the way. You may be stopped at certain points by flashing lights.
