Located in the commune of Tende, the hamlet of Castérino is a hidden little piece of paradise sitting at the foot of Mercantour National Park. Enjoying snow and sunshine, depending on the season, this setting is simply exceptional. At an altitude of 1,550 metres, this peaceful haven is surrounded by magnificent peaks which will delight skiers in the winter, and hikers throughout the rest of the year. This small mountain hamlet also sits at the entrance to the Vallée des Merveilles (The Valley of Wonders) . After a wonderful walk in the fresh mountain air, through the forest, crossing rocky terrain and amid alpine flora, you reach this exceptional archaeological site. A unique open-air museum, this site displays one of the largest collections of rock engravings in Europe. A history lesson in the heart of nature!
