Route de Sospel, Viaduc du Caramel, 06500 Castillon
One of the major sites in the Alpes-Maritimes, this 40m-high, south-west-facing cliff features 55 routes from 6b to 8c+, for experienced climbers. Parking and access just before the Caramel viaduct, coming from Menton.
Arcade is the historical sector and by far the most interesting. The routes are varied and on the whole superb; the left side is very steep (45°) and rather steep, the right side is more varied and offers all styles.
The first routes were equipped by Axel Franco and Philippe Maurel. Afterwards Pascal Clémenti succeeded in obtaining a FFME agreement with the town hall of Castillon and was able to continue with Philippe Gatta the opening of new routes and the re-equipment of the first routes.
Cliffs. 20 minutes walk. From the car park, take the path that passes under the Caramel viaduct. The Traduction sector is clearly visible from the path, above a scree (10 minutes), continue for another 10 minutes to reach the Arcade sector.
