Hiking at Lac des Grenouilles (frog lac)

Very easy

  • No more frogs due to global warming, but many marmots have taken up residence here. A picnic by the lake with a magnificent view of Mount Bego is a must! You will then be in the heart of the Mercantour Park.

  • - Drive through Castérino and follow the road for about 2 km to the cheese dairy, where there is a parking lot (30-minute walk).
    - On your left, at marker 395, you begin the climb towards Lac Vert de Fontanalbe, on a very well exposed forest track. You'll skirt the edge of the Mercantour Park (green markers, surrounded by white).
    - After about an hour, on the right, marker 392 indicates Lac des Grenouilles, which lies behind the hillock in front of you. Another 5 minutes and you're there....
    - Drive through Castérino and follow the road for about 2 km to the cheese dairy, where there is a parking lot (30-minute walk).
    - On your left, at marker 395, you begin the climb towards Lac Vert de Fontanalbe, on a very well exposed forest track. You'll skirt the edge of the Mercantour Park (green markers, surrounded by white).
    - After about an hour, on the right, marker 392 indicates Lac des Grenouilles, which lies behind the hillock in front of you. Another 5 minutes and you're there. Take the same route back down.

    Marmots, chamois, ibex... Let the silence settle in and watch - it's teeming with life!
