This short, easy three-quarter-hour hike takes you along an interpretive trail that ends at the Aigle monument, offering a magnificent view of the medieval village of Tende just opposite.
This monument which honours the fallen soldiers was built when Tende was Italian.
The itinerary starts from the RD6204 / Avenue Aimable Gastaud road, to take the small Rue Général Doyen (right next to the bakery-pastry shop "Les Délices des Merveilles"), which descends steeply to the bridge over the Roya river, to join Rue Marius Barucchi. Immediately on the left after the bridge, where one of the railway viaduct piers is located, take the steep concrete ramp, where you will find the wooden beacon 62 of the Conseil départemental, indicating "Monument de l'Aigle" (as well as La Brigue via the Col de Boseille). The path takes a little higher on the right. It climbs quietly among the trees: it is a walk that can also be done in summer: you are in the shade on the way up!
You can plan a picnic or snack break at the foot of the Monument!
A short, slightly steep and stony path will quickly take you back to the beginning of rue Marius Barucchi, 400 m downstream from your starting point. And your loop is complete!
You can quench your thirst at the pretty fountains, either at the start of your walk, just above the junction of the path, or on your return, at the corner of rue Marius Barucchi and the RD6204, on the left bank of the Roya (on the edge of the Nationale).
A word of advice: the RD 6204 is very busy, so return by the same route.
