Prospettive Perspective - Art trails in the Roya Valley: Dörte Meyer's Petroglyphs

Interpretation Centre in Saorge
  • This cross-border project, based on 5 artistic proposals in the Roya valley, promotes the conscious protection of the land and the environment through contemporary art. Dörte Meyer has engraved pictograms reminiscent of the rock engravings along the Roya.

Born in 1969, German artist Dörte Meyer creates space-

At three locations along the Roya river, she installed
pictograms inspired by Bronze Age rock engravings found
on Mount Bego in the valley of Wonders.
These signs engraved in stone were created with the help
of a generative artificial intelligence system. For this work,
she chose primary forms, easily recognizable. Like warning signs
or road signs, these images are a modern form of
visual communication, reduced to the essential. In this way,
Dörte Meyer creates a dialogue between ancient stories
    and contemporary signs.
At the same time, the work is subject to natural erosion,
it may disappear, covered by vegetation, or simply not
be seen. The artist considers this process as part of the work.
