12 rue Paul Morillot, 06500 Menton
It was the Danish architect Tersling who built, in 1892, this small Russian church whose interior is richly decorated with wall paintings by Prince Gagarin, and many icons.
In the 19th century, a large Russian colony frequented the Côte d'Azur. Given the scale of this colony, an orthodox church was built according to the plans of Hans Georg Tersling. It is dedicated to Notre-Dame, Joie des Affligés or Notre-Dame de Consolation and Saint-Nicolas. The building is not constructed in a pure oriental Russian style, but is a mixture of western and oriental styles. After suffering damage during the second world war, the church was restored in 1958.
