Embark on one of the most beautiful rail journeys in Europe, from Nice to Tende through the valleys of the Paillon, Bévéra and Roya.
A real technical feat in a dense and rugged region, it is distinguished by an impressive succession of engineering structures: viaducts built over real canyons and countless tunnels dug into the mountain.
A double line open to Europe between Cuneo, Nice and Ventimiglia.
The result of a titanic work for its time (work began in 1883 and official inauguration in 1928), this astonishing line is probably the most characteristic of Italian engineering. This monumental work is above all a succession of incredible figures:
    - Only 100km to overcome a difference in altitude of over 1000m
    - 81 tunnels for a total of 44km, including 3 spiral tunnels:
    - 1 at Berghe and the famous Scarassouï viaduct
    - 1 between Saint-Dalmas de Tende and La Brigue
    - 1 between Tende and Viévola (Rio Freddo and Morga tunnels)
    - 407 bridges including the 300m long Rivoira viaduct
    - 15 arches for an absolute height of 45m
    - 130 retaining walls
Some of them were destroyed during the war to prevent the supply of German troops settled in Haute Roya but rebuilt after the Second World War.
The line was reopened in its entirety in 1979.
