Trekking heaven

A hiking destination

Hiking is ideal for getting to the roots of a destination. It’s a great way to discover a new place and everything grabs your attention: a plant that captures your senses here, an animal darting across your path there, majestic hilltop villages creating a horizon for hikers… Deep in the Menton, Riviera & Merveilles destination, right where the Alps begin their ascent off the Mediterranean coast, the paths snaking to the Upper Valley are yours for the taking, no matter your hiking ability. The ideal mild climate makes hiking a year-round activity here where you can warm up under the Côte d’Azur’s winter sun or cool off in the gorges in summer…

Best foot forward

Hikes

Our destination is heaven for hikers with its many trails for leisurely walkers and keen ramblers alike. Soak up the French Riviera’s stunning scenery on a walk at your own pace as you drink in the landscapes that inspire you and stop when you feel like taking a break, a photo or having a delicious picnic. You’re free as a bird! Walk this way to find our footpaths by the sea or in the mountains that tickle your fancy.

With a guide

Naturalist hikes

Reconnect with Mother Nature and experience a dreamy world on a naturalist hike. Learn how to listen to the sounds of nature, recognise animal tracks, pick edible berries and medicinal plants, concoct potions and elixirs and so much more. Your guide will be there to help you and teach you about how this increasingly little-known environment thrives with no outside help.

Treks

The GR trails

Four GR (Grandes Randonnées) trails run through the French Riviera. The trails are signposted by the French Hiking Federation and cover the best landscapes in the region. Take the Balcons d’Azur trail (GR51) from Turbie through Gorbio then Sainte-Agnès to Menton. The setting is magical with the unique mountain horizon that drops into the sea. If you want to head inland, we recommend hiking the Valley of Wonders for its fascinating and extensive cave art, then ramble through the iconic Mercantour Park and its incredible biodiversity.
