The inscription engraved on one side of the basin indicates the name of the sponsor of this fountain: "erected in 1883 by the care of Br L. Bischoffshem deputy of the Alpes Maritimes". Extremely rich, it offers this fountain to the commune of Breil sur Roya.

First installed on Place Brancion, it is finally moved to the beginning of Boulevard Rouvier, in order to give way to cars.
The Baron de Bischoffshem also financed the construction of the observatory of Nice and, until his death, ensured its operation.
