rue Cotta, 06430 Tende
The southern entrance to the medieval town, rue Cotta, like rue de France, follows the line of the medieval main street. Much of Tende's religious heritage is to be found in this street, with the collegiate church and the chapels of the penitents.
The street is named in honor of Jean-Baptiste Cotta, a famous 17th-century Italian poet who was born and died in Tende. A stele between Place du Ponte and the collegiate church commemorates his legacy.
As in the Rue de France, there are also magnificent sculpted lintels at numbers 51, 59, 61 and 65.
Continuing along the street, you come out at the old gateway to the old town, known as the "Porte de Nice".
