Description
Two evenings to present the initial findings of “Saorge Story”: a scientific and artistic project aimed at jointly developing a cross-disciplinary and participatory methodology on water issues, using Saorge as a case study!
Featuring:
* a Radio Tout Terrain broadcast, “By and for Society? Lessons Learned from a Collaborative Science Project,” at the Cairos bookstore on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
and
* the initial results of the “Saorge Story” science & society project—thematic discussion groups—and works in progress from the “Roya Open Sources” project
Project objectives:
To understand the interactions between environmental dynamics (hydrology, geology) and human behavior (perception, water use) in this region through a systemic and interdisciplinary approach, by involving citizens in the production of scientific data.
Concrete Actions:
Generating and sharing knowledge by combining a targeted and well-established interdisciplinary scientific approach (geography, geology, hydrogeology) with the expertise in socio-territorial methodology of research partners (citizen organizations, institutions, and other local stakeholders).
The “Saorge STORY” project aims to develop a cross-cutting and participatory methodology addressing water-related issues in the village of Saorge, located in the Roya Valley—a region prone to significant natural hazards such as landslides, floods, and droughts. The goal is to understand the interactions between environmental dynamics (hydrology, geology) and human behaviors (perceptions, water use) in this area. The project proposes a systemic and interdisciplinary approach by involving citizens in the generation and management of scientific data.
The innovation lies in integrating scientific and local knowledge to collaboratively develop tailored solutions for water resource management and natural hazard mitigation. The results obtained will not only provide a better understanding of these phenomena at the local level but also create a methodology that can be replicated in other regions. In collaboration with local residents, this project includes field measurements and geotechnical analyses, while promoting active citizen science, in which residents play a key role in the research. The project is coordinated by Sorbonne University and the Remontons la Roya association, and draws on experts in hydrogeology, geography, and social psychology, with a requested budget of €99,505 over 18 months.
