Description

Two thousand years of history are etched into the stones of La Turbie. Long before it became a Provençal village with flower-lined streets, La Turbie was a stop along the Via Julia Augusta, the road that connected Italy to Gaul along the coast.
Its ancient route still runs through the medieval village: today it is known as Rue Droite. From this crossroads location, La Turbie has inherited a rich heritage where different eras overlap—ancient ruins, medieval architecture, and cobblestone alleyways that still wind along their original paths. As a member of the IRAHTA association, Jean-Philippe Gispalou has devoted years to studying the village’s archaeological and historical heritage. Over the course of a morning—about 1.5 hours—he’ll guide you through the medieval alleyways to discover the ruins that have stood the test of time, and share with you the research that, stone by stone, helps us better understand the history of La Turbie.
