Description

Come discover a little-known part of Menton’s heritage! The United Protestant Church of Menton invites you to explore its church, located right in the heart of the city, at your own pace.
The French Evangelical Church of Menton was founded by Jean-Marie Trenca (1814–1900), a member of a prominent Menton family (and cousin of Charles Trenca). After meeting a bilingual peddler selling New Testaments, he converted to Protestantism and began gathering the first local believers in private homes. Construction of the church (1868): After officially founding the congregation in 1857, the congregation purchased a plot of land on Rue de la République. The church was dedicated on March 11, 1868, under the leadership of Pastor Jules Louis Delapierre, who would remain at the head of the parish for nearly 50 years (1862–1911). On this occasion, come explore our exhibition dedicated to Martin Luther. Through a series of educational panels, trace the life of the famous reformer, the key principles of the Protestant Reformation, and its major impact on European cultural and spiritual history.
