Fort of the Col de Brouis

Access to the fort is located in the valley where the barracks are located. Its artillery, composed of mortars of 80, is directed towards the Italian positions behind the border. The entrance to the fort is protected by a ditch, loopholes and grenade chutes. This underground fortification, the most advanced of the French line of resistance, protects the railway and road installations of Breil sur Roya, a place of obligatory passage between Piedmont and Liguria claimed by the Italians. In June 1940, this artillery blocked the advance of the Italians.
