Description

At Serre de la Madone, cultural heritage comes to life through music with the Duo Azzurro: an intimate concert in the heart of the garden.
To wrap up European Heritage Days, Serre de la Madone is hosting an exclusive musical evening in the heart of its historic garden. On Sunday, September 20, Sabine Marzé on mandolin and Philippe Loli on guitar—who perform together as the Duo Azzurro—will present their program “Metamorphoses of the South .” From Vivaldi to Piazzolla, the concert takes the audience on a journey through the centuries and cultures of the South, featuring both classic repertoire and contemporary compositions. This program resonates with the spirit of the 2026 European Heritage Days and their call to bring heritage to life and reimagine it. More than twenty years of musical collaboration have brought Sabine Marzé and Philippe Loli together as Duo Azzurro. An internationally recognized mandolinist, Sabine Marzé has worked for many years to champion the mandolin as a concert instrument in its own right. A 2007 winner of the prestigious Osaka International Solo Mandolin Competition, she has built a career as a soloist while actively promoting the creation and transmission of music centered on her instrument. At her side is Philippe Loli, an internationally renowned guitarist and composer and member of the Aighetta Quartet, who has performed on numerous stages across Europe, Asia, and the Americas. United by the same artistic standards and a shared passion for the dialogue between the classical repertoire and contemporary composition, they form the Duo Azzurro, where the mandolin and guitar interact with virtuosity and sensitivity. The Mandolin, Between Heritage and Creativity: An instrument deeply rooted in European and Mediterranean musical history, the mandolin is currently experiencing a true renaissance. Through her work as a performer and educator, Sabine Marzé is contributing to this movement, fostering a dialogue between historical repertoire and contemporary composition. A Journey from Vivaldi to Piazzolla: The program will feature, among other works, Vivaldi’s Concerto in C Major, Verdi’s *La Vergine degli Angeli*, Albéniz’s *Asturias*, Saint-Saëns’s *Le Cygne*, and Piazzolla’s *Libertango*, alongside several original compositions by Philippe Loli. With *Métamorphoses du Sud*, Serre de la Madone offers a different way of engaging with cultural heritage: through music, in a garden steeped in history itself.
