The Retaj Women's Cooperative is an organization of women who are trying to preserve their land rights through agriculture. On the uncultivated hills near Nablus, they plant olive trees. Not only because olives are a Palestinian specialty, but also because their crops prevent the land from being taken over by Israeli settlers. Fallow land is much easier to usurp than land that is actively worked by the local Palestinian population.
