Roya citoyenne in partnership with the Caïros bookshop are honored to welcome feminist and libertarian sociologist Pinar Selek for her book on her forbidden research into Kurdish resistance, "Lever la tête", with lawyer Françoise Cotta.
1995. As the conflict between Turkey and the Kurdish people rages on, sociologist Pinar Selek risks her life to research the origins of the Kurdish resistance movement. Through her encounters, she sheds light on the oppression of a people that the authorities are trying to wipe out.
No sooner had she reached her initial conclusions than she was arrested by the Turkish government. Thus began a long descent into hell, made up of torture, imprisonment and persecution.
Between the quest for truth and state repression, this deeply moving account is not simply a return to a painful past, but an act of intellectual and creative resistance. With this unprecedented testimony, the internationally acclaimed researcher signs a manifesto in defense of freedom of thought.
Pinar Selek is a lecturer in sociology at the Université Nice Côte d'Azur and a member of the Unité de recherche migrations et société (Urmis).
Her research focuses on power mechanisms, collective action and social mobilization.
She was imprisoned for two years by the Turkish state following her research, during which time she was subjected to torture.
Pinar Selek will be interviewed by Françoise Cotta, a leading criminal lawyer and author of "La robe noire", who has regularly taken part in missions in recent years, particularly in Turkey for the NGO "Avocats Sans Frontières".
This will be followed by a discussion and a convivial aperitif.
