Description
Discover—in a fun and interactive way that’s accessible to everyone—the life and music of Henry Purcell, the great Baroque composer, in the magnificent setting of the monastery’s cloister!
Presented by the Ensemble La Chambre (Les BaroQuiales)
Through stories of princesses, demons, witches, and his famous “genie du froid,” discover Henry Purcell’s Baroque music in a show the whole family can enjoy! You may not know it, but you’ve surely heard at least once (or more!) a piece of music written by this English composer in the late 17th century.
Between 1683 and 1692, Henry Purcell composed operas that enjoyed phenomenal success throughout Europe and continue to capture the imagination of young and old alike to this day!
Accompanied by four singers and a theorbo player (the intriguing and iconic “large guitar” of the Baroque era) from the Ensemble, you’ll be guided through the world of opera and vocal music.
There you’ll encounter characters from Greek mythology and medieval tales, such as the famous King Arthur…
