This stele recalls that on October 28, 1944, the head of the Kommandatur de Breil sur Roya gathered the population in the parish church and ordered him to prepare to leave the village the next morning.
Walking in a pouring rain, the Breillois join Tende where they are boarded in a train to Turin. They avoided deportation to Germany thanks to the intervention of Monsignor Fossatti, Archbishop of Turin, but were interned in the camps of the Casermettes San Paolo in very difficult conditions. They find their village ransacked and mined in April and May 1945
