Description
"La Poule au 5 sous" is a sculpture that has its roots in the stories and traditions of La Brigue’s oral heritage, which bear witness to its history and cultural identity.
In the old days, in La Brigue, when night fell, children were warned with a mysterious phrase:
“Watch out, or the five-sou hen over there will devour you…”—“Stai atenti chë lagiüsa ‘r li ha a gayina da sinq sordi ch’la v’mangia”
A creature of popular imagination, the five-sordi hen has never existed anywhere but in words and memories. Yet it has been a part of childhood for many generations, passed down through the voices of parents and grandparents in the Brigasque language.
This sculpture pays tribute to these simple yet powerful stories, which shape a collective memory, a language, and an identity.
It serves as a reminder that legends, even modest ones, leave a lasting imprint on the heart of a village.
