Description

At Librairie du Caïros, meet Quebec author Aimée LEVESQUE to discuss her latest book, "Parmi les femmes", a tribute to twenty-eight women, and the project she is currently working on, in residence at the Saorge monastery.
Her latest book, "Parmi les femmes" is published by La Peuplade. In it, the author recounts a fascinating journey in the footsteps of extraordinary, forgotten women. A book-mausoleum in tribute to twenty-eight women neglected by history: wives of, muses of, daughters of, artists, resistance fighters, committed citizens whose destinies criss-crossed the roads of the former Austro-Hungarian Empire on which Aimée Lévesque wandered. During her residency at the Saorge monastery, Aimée Levesque is working on a new poetic essay centered around the figure of the gull, a controversial animal admired by some... hated by others... A few words about the project: "I want to write a book centered around the figure of the gull, an animal that many loathe but that I for one find majestic, and which is emblematic of the relationship that Western human beings have with our environment. The book will explore different, even complementary, visions of certain species of gulls in territories that have been significant to me: the ballet of these birds around ferries in Istanbul; their reputation as a nuisance (through their presence in the city, their cries and their consumption of waste) both in my region of Quebec and in certain European cities such as Nice. My aim is to write a book that's committed, but also nuanced. A few words about the author: Aimée Lévesque was born in Rimouski, Quebec, in 1985. With degrees in linguistics and didactics from the Université de Montréal, and in pedagogy from UQAM, she also teaches English. She has published several works, mainly poetry and essays. Passionate about languages, Aimée Lévesque is inhabited by the cities where she has lived (Montreal, Ōsaka, Paris, Sarajevo and Istanbul). Alongside her writing activities, she is involved in several associations working in the fields of the environment and sharing.
