Description
The Nantes-based supergroup Hawaiian Pistoleros is coming to get everyone dancing at Place Ponte in the old village of Tende, with snacks and a bar on site
Formed in 2011 at the initiative of guitarist Vassili Caillosse—one of the few French players of the “steel guitar”—the Hawaiian Pistoleros are musicians from Rennes and Nantes with diverse backgrounds: all of whom have played in numerous bands across western France, ranging from folk-rock (Santa Cruz, Bruno Green...) to singer-songwriter music (Monsieur Roux) to street performances (Sergent Pépère...), and have been collaborating across genres for over 10 years, forging a strong musical bond in the process.
Initially, the Hawaiian Pistoleros joyfully explored American popular music from the interwar period, with a particular interest in Western Swing and so-called “Hawaiian” music—two genres that are rarely represented in France and seldom performed. But as their journey progressed, they moved beyond a simple “revival” to offer their own arrangements in more modern and personal styles.
In 2015, the arrival of Vincent Dupas—aka My Name Is Nobody—on vocals and baritone guitar completed this transformation, allowing the band to continue its musical journey through an imaginary America, where disillusioned folk singers, hula dancers, and country guitarists blend together in perfect harmony.
