Poetry and Music Recital: "Then I Will Speak"

✍️This project—currently underway as part of a residency at the Saorge Monastery—draws on the writings of the French poet René Daumal (1908–1944) and is inspired by two spiritual traditions: Kashmiri Shaivism ️ and Christian mysticism ✝️. Each poetic fragment is set in dialogue with musical pieces and improvisations on the lute, creating an interplay of words, silence, and music that invites the audience to listen with careful, mindful attention. The lute, with its soft and intimate tones, is traditionally associated with angelic musicians who serve as mediators between heaven and earth. Music from the Renaissance and early Baroque repertoire—preludes, ricercari, fantasias, and tastar de corde by composers such as Dalza, Spinacino, Gerle, Terzi, and De Rippe—fosters meditative exploration: these free, exploratory forms allow us to hear the gesture that seeks This solo performance is also informed by Nicolas Muzy’s autobiographical journey, in which he explores his relationship with speech and silence, as well as by his musical, spiritual (Indian and Western), and therapeutic practices Designed for spaces conducive to contemplation, this recital transforms the evocative setting of Notre-Dame des Miracles Church into a laboratory for listening and shared presence, Followed by a time of fellowship.
