View of the old palaces (Winter, Lutetia) built late XIX century/ early XX century. These former hotels had a very large capacity. The biggest of them was the Riviera Palace (200 rooms). During the Second World War, their functions were transformed from hotels to hospitals. Then, at the end of the War, they were sold and became private residences. We continue to climb the trail to the Monastery, «bridge» between the two valleys of Careï and Borrigo, but the invasions being only very little visible, everything was moved in the center of the old city. Throughout the 464 steps, we can admire the fifteen oratories built following the wishes of the sister of Jérôme de Monléon (twice mayor of Menton), «miraculous» of leprosy. The De Monléon family has its vault at the Monastery.
History of the cradle of Menton: the chapel was built in the XIV century, on the hill of Puypin («Stronghold»); in the XIII the castle had already been moved on the Colla Rogna (Rock of the Old Town). It is Honoré II, Prince builder, who was the first to stay in the Palace of Princes, rue Longue (former Roman Way). Inside the crypt we can admire the many ex-votos, as well as at the Laghet shrine in La Turbie. The Capuchin Brothers left about twenty years ago, then the Sisters of the Annunciade arrived. Currently the Monastery was bought by the city.
