5 reasons to enjoy an Indian summer in Menton, Riviera & Merveilles

The weather is good, the sky is blue… In Menton, Riviera & Merveilles, theIndian summer is going to make people happy! Here, the end of summer means the beginning of new discoveries… And as the crowds dwindle, so do the temperatures. Whether you’re in the mood for nature or culture, picking your own fruits or playing basketball, discover our 5 good reasons to experience Indian summer in the heart of our destination!

Reason no. 1 :

to enjoy Menton between land and sea

If you still haven’t given up on putting on your bathing suit, head to Menton’s Plage des Sablettes for your last swim of the season! The town’s largest beach is the perfect setting for a few moments of idleness, with water temperatures hovering around 20 degrees. Makes you want to take a dip, doesn’t it?

As for the more chilly, head to Menton’s old town to explore its historic heart: a colorful labyrinth where medieval and baroque history coexist! Climb up to the Basilica of Saint-Michel, then to the Vieux Château cemetery: all that’s left to do is enjoy the panoramic view over the bay… And immortalize it!

Reason nº2 :

to soar high in our villages

We invite you to visit the authentic hilltop villages of the Riviera! Our suggestion: Sainte-Agnès, Europe’s highest coastal village. Just climb to the top of its 760-metre peak and you’ll understand why it was voted one of “France’s most beautiful villages”: a breathtaking panorama of the Mediterranean awaits you! And let’s face it, with the first orange colors of Indian summer, the setting promises to be idyllic.

📌 A leap into the past

Did you know? Sainte-Agnès is the ideal spot to step back in time. Here, history lovers can take time to admire the remains of the castle, stroll through the medieval garden, or explore the Maginot Line Fort dug into the cliff.

Reason no. 3:

to walk in the footsteps of an emperor

The Trophée d’Auguste, perched in La Turbie, is a real nod to “Roman triumph”! Erected in 6 B.C., it celebrates Augustus’ victory over the fierce Alpine tribes… who weren’t exactly in the mood to bend to Roman law. Today, the trophy sits majestically, offering an exceptional panorama of the Riviera… All the more so during the Indian summer! The golden light that bathes the Côte d’Azur at this time of year makes for a magical visit. The mildness of the air, the distant view of Cap Martin and the surrounding mountains… Escape guaranteed!

Reason #4:

to stay in shape on the trails

Put on your hiking boots and we’ll take you on the Le Corbusier trail in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin! Just over 4 km long, this wild trail links the tip of Cap Martin to the Monaco border (or the other way around, if you prefer!). The scenery is breathtaking, with azure seas, majestic mountains and breathtaking views of the coastline… not to mention the orange-toned vegetation, to our great delight!

Reason no. 5:

to pick mushrooms in the forest

Indian summer often means a walk in the heart of the forest. At dawn, venture into the woods to listen to the deer’s famous bellowing: its noisy courtship display! It’s the promise of a magical wilderness concert, as close to nature as you can get. Then, if you’re feeling greedy, you can go mushroom picking. If you’re lucky, you may even come across some porcini or chanterelle mushrooms. All you have to do now is find them… Get ready!
